My young neighbor Gretchen just started as a realtor with Windermere. And one of the first things they did was set her up with her own web page to make her look more legitimate.
It worked so well that her Windermere listing shows up before her LinkedIn listing and, when searching her name, the first suggestion is her Windermere link.
So we used this little website traffic trick back when I was at Cardiac Science for the sales team. And Troy, who took greatest advantage of it, still has his Cardiac Science page ahead of his LinkedIn page.
In Troy’s case, website traffic from a college buddy trying to find Troy could lead to him learning a thing or two about automated external defibrillators and how having them at the right place and time could mean the difference between life and death. It could even lead to a sale.
Initial Pushback
When I first suggested this tactic back in 2009, the VP of Sales was wary.
“We don’t want our competition to know the names of all our salespeople. They might try to poach them.”
To which I replied, “If your competition can lure them away because of this web page, we aren’t doing enough to motivate employees to stay.”
That was years ago. Now, it’s as easy as an advanced LinkedIn search on “Cardiac Science” and “sales” to generate a list of Cardiac Science salespersons.
In other words, there’s no reason not to give your sales team extra support in the form of their own sales page and related website traffic. It’s something to which they can proudly link from their email signatures (another underutilized and easy tactic for website traffic).
Website Traffic Action Item
To put this concept into practice for your company, set up a directory from which you’d set the employee pages.
Create a template so there is consistency among the pages. Also, once they see their pages live on the web, they’ll be far more engaged to get you any changes or additions to customize it.
Add a contact form or incentive for visitors to reach their salesperson.
You might even go further and add a sales map as I did for client Rose Medical, below.
