Congratulations on your anniversary!
How many messages like this have you received? And what did you do with them?
Maybe you ignored them. Maybe you wrote back and said thanks.
Maybe you wrote a global “Thanks for the well wishes, everyone!”
If you did, you missed a business development opportunity.
Here’s what you should do next time.
I wrote every single person back. Individually. And said,
With that one almost-universal response, I reminded all my well wishers what kinds of value I could provide for them in the coming year.
I asked questions to keep the conversation going.
I specifically (and enthusiastically) told them to Write back!
Size matters.
I have 6,560 connections. Another 1,372 follow me.
I got nearly 200 Congratulations! / business development opportunities over the following week. That’s a 3% response rate.
Two takeaways
1. Respond to every communication graciously. Ask to continue the conversation. And remind them how you can help.
2. Build your network. It can be a bit of a numbers game.
And that business I got?
So far, I got a few brochure request for MDMS, the Medical Device Marketing and Sales Training Program I host, and for 10x.
One was from a woman who had exactly the skill set another well-wisher needed. Had she not written, I wouldn’t have remembered her and wouldn’t have introduced a warm lead to her. There’s a lot of karma in that and now maybe she and her husband will attend 10x.
Besides money, I also:
1. Had a story to tell you, giving me another chance to share a medical device marketing tip with thousands.
2. Connected with 200 people in a way they didn’t expect. They may remember me the next time they need help. The gal who got a warm lead certainly will!
See all the good things that came from the opportunity to connect?
Now you go and do the same!
